desperate for help

Hello, I am a college student and I have to do a project using Max/msp/Jitter. I am a beginner and i am having a really hard time understanding max. I have been doing the tutorials, but I dont think its getting through to me, maybe you can help make my life a little easier..

Project: an input sound (random) has to go into max, and change the hue of an image depending on the emotion depicted in the input sound.

Problem: I have seen a couple tutorials on how to change the hue of an image, but nothing specific with sound input changing the hue based on specific sound properties.
Im also not sure how many sound properties i can mess with in max( frequency,.. not sure what others there are)
So, Basically:
How do i get input sound to change the RGB levels of an image?

How many sound properties can max detect? (ex: frequency)?

Im not sure how accurately max can tell the emotion of a sound, but thats not as important as getting this "kind-of" working.

It would be nice if i could atleast get the image to turn to a hot color(red, yellow, orange) if someone screamed into the microphone, or turn to a cooler color(blue, purple, green) if someone spoke softly into the microphone.

Any suggestions/help would be GREATLY appreciated, im becoming very stressed, i dont know where to turn. Thank you very much!

Hi,

It sounds like you need to spend some time in MSP learning how to analyze
sound. You might find fiddle~, analyzer~, or pitch~ helpful. They aren’t
standard objects. Do you know how to install externals in max? You can find
them here:

http://maxobjects.com/?PHPSESSID=98489b432e3784e4c71555d694774f5d&PHPSESSID=98489b432e3784e4c71555d694774f5d&request=fiddle%7E&operateur=AND&id_plateforme=0&Submit=OK

Perhaps start with fiddle~ – it will give you freq and amp output – use the
scale object to get the appropriate range for use with hue, saturation,
etc.
