Is there a way for max msp to know if there are headphones plugged in?

For example, part of my app allows the user to hear the mic input by throwing the adc into dac. It’d be awesome to have a catch that warns the user (most of which have an internal mic right next to internal speakers) that they might have feedback if they aren’t using headphones (or, alternatively, if an external mic is not plugged in).

Thanks for your help guys!

Maybe you could try detecting the feedback instead.

Or else compare the waveform coming out of the soundcard with that coming into the microphone.
