Digital Installation
Hi All
I am a Fine Art student and for my Degree Show I inend to set up an installation using Max/MSP Jitter to manipulate images of visitors in real time.
Although I am basically computer literate I do not have the time or possibly the expertise to discover from the tutorials what parts of the software I need to use.
I anyone out there can be of assistance I would be extremely grateful and can explain in more detail my conceptual ideas in detail
Regards
Hi Tony,
In order for anyone to help you in any way, you're going to have to give
us all some more specific information.
Cheers,
Andrew B.
Hi Andrew
Thanks for your response.
Conceptually my work is about the transience of our existence and the way
that our presence leaves traces or echoes after we have past.
Much of my work is in Encastic, which is a medium used 3000 years ago so its
rather neat that I should choose to use contemporary technology for this
exhibition.
A usefull metaphor for my work is a Palimpsest and I intend to project a
Human Palimpsest in a darkened room onto a wall.
The idea is to capture images of the visitors at the show, manipulate them
using the software and project them as layered images perhaps some seconds
after the pass by the camera and enter the room. I may also need to possibly
distort the images, but this is rather trial and error.
If you are unsure of the terms Palimpsest and Encaustic it maybe easier for
you to look them up rather than me explain in this mail.
You will appreciate that the use of digital and video in art is relatively
new and rapidly changing as artists bcome aware of the changing technology
and what it can do as a medium

you might gain some insight by looking at some history of interactive
installation
which already has many precedents along the lines of what you're
thinking
i would contend that just as much craft is required with interactive
video as encaustic
but i'm certain a nice foggy encaustic will make a lovely projection
surface :)
so good luck
the work of David Rokeby is a good start:

i would also recommend jit.matrixset to record directly to memory
