disable/enable hints in max5

How would you (let the user) enable or disable hints globally in a patch that will also end up being a standalone? Is it a message I need to send to all ui objects, like “hint 0″ or “hint 1″ to do this– there doesn’t seem to be any documentation for this. Or do I resort to a script?

Thanks for your suggestion– I tried using the universal object, but “hint 0″ actually _erases_ hints instead of simply disabling them. See example patch. Any other ideas out there?

You can use the [hint] object but you’d need to set one up for each ui object that you want to include a hint for, then you’d link each one to a [receive] and trigger the master [send] with 1 or 0 to show or hide all the hints.

I’m gonna have a look into making some sort of abstraction to do this without requiring too much user input. I wouldn’t pin your hopes on this though, with luck there’s already an easier way to do this already. Aside: I’m feeling ill and there are only so many films you can watch before trying to find another distraction.
