So I was messing around in max, using soundflower, rewire and my MOTU 896 I/O and now this morning I am unable to use my built-in audio output... I assume it has something to do with my routing in soundflower and rewire, I did crash a few times doing that.

But now in my audio setup (for Mac OS) the built-in audio output does not even show up, instead it is stuck on the digital audio output and I can get no other options.

I tried creating a new aggregate device, still won't let me use the built in audio out althought I can see it and add it as an output option, and I zapped the pram.

I've had this problem with my Macbook Pro. The machine tries to smartly figure out if you have headphones, TOSlink, or nothing plugged in to the audio out. At some point my machine got confused.

Try plugging in some headphones, or an 1/8" audio cable, into the jack. Then unplug. Repeat. I think that's how mine became unconfused. If that doesn't work (I assume you've restarted), I expect there is a preferences file you could trash.

AH! Thanks Micheal! I didn't know it detected an analog connection. It defintely got confused at some point and just got stuck on digital out. I'm up and running again, thanks for the quick fix,
