Does MAX/MSP Work with Flash?

February 14, 2006 | 12:59 pm

HELLO WORLD. AS PART OF A UNIVERSITY DEGREE, I AM CONSTRUCTING AN INTERACTIVE GUIDE TO MIXING AND MASTERING. I AM VERY NEW TO MAX/MSP AND I AM REQUIRED TO CONSTRUCT SOME KIND MIXING DESK AND A PATCH THAT LETS YOU PLAY SAMPLES, VARYING PARAMETERS SUCH AS EG OR ADDING REVERB EFFECTS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO ACHIEVE THIS?

I AM CREATING THE INTERACTIVE DVD IN FLASH. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THESE TWO PIECES OF SOFTWARE WORK TOGETHER (MAX/MSP AND FLASH)? IF SO ID BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD GIVE ME GUIDANCE.

I’m in the same boat. I would love to find out how to create fm synths for users to manipulate via Flash…

Also check Flash interraction using Quicktime in Max as a host for Flash files.

A friend of mine found that flashserver took a lot of cpu overhead,
so I proposed to go on the supercollider model: user interface in
Flash, audio processing in Max/MSP, communication through [mxj
net.tcp.send] and [mxj net.tcp.recv].

He is still working on the Flash side of it, but we can post a basic
result soon…

Beware of this combination. I’ve used Flash and Max on G5′s with
unstable/unusable results(for a museum installation). Communication
was via netsend and netreceive externals.
The combination would work for some time, and then stall at some
point. No crashes, so no logs to inspect. Maddening. Flash is a real
processor hog that doesn’t want to play nice with other programs.
What might work: run Flash on computer A(Flash on Windows is much
faster, btw) and Max on B.

Best,

On this same topic, I’m doing a similar thing, I’ve created a patch to read data from an accelerometer to control MIDI, it all works fine but I was wondering if there was a way to somehow include this patch in a pretty flash package? I’m using flashserver at the moment and it all works fine but I’d sorely like to not have to have to load the SWF and the EXE up seperately which is what i assume I’d have to do.
Thanks for any help (Sorry, I’m quite new to both packages)
