I'm not sure if this can be done, but it's something that has vexed me with the vst~ object for a several years. I finally admit defeat and come to the list with this. I am using the bach library to try and send midi data to a VST, and I can't figure out a way to get the duration to be recognized. It seems that the duration that comes out of bach.unpacknote object is in milliseconds. Tell me if I'm thinking along the right lines here: I think I need that I take the data and after so many milliseconds a 0 velocity message should be sent to the midiformat object. Before that, I probably need to create a list so that the a generic note value is sent and a velocity of 0? I'm just not getting this and despite using Max for 12 years, I still am easily confused on list objects. Can anyone put me on the right track? Daniele Ghisi, one of the programmers, has been helpful on other matters with bach, but doesn't use vst~ enough to be able to help. Thanks for even pondering this.

note data for [vst~] does not really differ from note data for [midiout].

you can either use [makenote] or create the note off event by using a delay or pipe object. (in case you are on max5, i am not sure if pipe can process lists there)

That I can do, but I want variable data, as the duration data that comes in varies from note to note. But you gave me an idea to try, if make note can take variables. I've never tried that. Thanks for your reply. It got my mind working again.
