Hi all i was wondering if it is possible to have different MIDI mapping with m4l. I have separate parts in mi live show and would like to use one controller that depending on each part has knobs or faders assigned to different devices. Then passing from one stage to other i would simply give a cue to change to new preset assignment. Do you think is possible?

I don’t think this to be possible. I’ve looked into this same thing myself when working on my ‘ReasonAble’ patch (a patch allowing you to control Reason from within Live) but I wasn’t able to come up with a solution to have multiple mappings (my main focus was the APC40).

I’ve tried a lot; from trying to create M4L objects on the fly (no go) to using different bpatchers or patchers and turning these “on and off” (basically; adding/removing them from the presentation) and so on.

I eventually resorted to using 1 set of controls and merely changing their descriptions, although I’m still not fully satisfied right now.

Although I think there should be something to make M4L ‘reinit’ the patch so to speak. A bit what’s happening when you go from edit mode back to ‘Live mode’ so to speak.

If you create a single max4live device that exposes a dial or a toggle for every element you want to be able to control, then using live.remotes and live.objects you can change the paths that these focus on, my preference is the live.remote as it is a lot faster in response, then you’d have to midi map all of the dials and toggles leaving a bank of controls that will switch between the live paths and therefore the functionality of the device….

I do this a lot!! It’s quite easy….

Cheers

hi,
I am thinking about a similar problem.
a work around is to switch the MIDI channel of the controller.
but I am missing that the parameters of the encoders jump into the right position. so I am wondering if LIVE has a “bang: send all parameters” message ?
