I’m trying to record into buffer~ but I don’t always want the buffer
to be huge depending on how much I’m recording into it from an
external source. Basically I want the buffer size to change depending
on how much I need/use. So if I start recording and I only record for
2 seconds or if I record for 2 hours I want the buffer to be that
long.

Is there to simultaneously record buffer~ while also resizing it from
say 1ms or more?

It’s quite easy to start with a big buffer and then to crop it to the length that you have actually recorded into. As far as i am aware there is no way to make the buffer bigger as you are recording into it.

Also you should be aware of sample rounding errors. This can mean that if you record a long file into a buffer and then access it using play~ or wave~ you may hear nasty artifacts. Thus is due to the max signal architecture being 32 bit and it is discussed in more detail here http://www.cycling74.com/forums/index.php?t=msg&goto=391&rid=0&srch=sample+rounding+error#msg_391

Depending on your needs you may be able to record to disk using sfrecord~ and then load that sound file, or parts of it into a buffer as needed.

best john.
