Maybe the error could simply be logged in the Max window indicating which file is wrongly formatted?

But more importantly is there a guide that explains all the possibilities and intricacies of palette editing?

ex: what is "destrect"? Why all "maxclass" are "fpic"? What is the "id"'s purpose? Does "boxalpha" works?
