Has anyone gotten data from the eigenharp pico controller into max/msp? I have been trying and even with the midi out from the eigenharp to max I still only get pitchbend and some very minimal control. Im curious if anyone has experimented with this yet?

That looks rockin! Wonder what the problem is….

Can’t believe the price tag on the big one. As cool as it might seem, considering you could get a Lemur, a top-of-the-line laptop, a full-size weighted keyboard, and a decent used car for the price of just one, it’s totally not worth it. The pico is another story, interested to hear if you get it rolling!

Well really, if you mess with the pico you will realize that the big one is totally worth it, and its not meant to be for everyone, thats why its so big and expensive, but they just made a middle of the road one for like a couple grand. Totally worth it. GET A PICO, this thing is the shit. My only gripe is the software isn’t flexible enough at all yet, but they are making it opensource very soon. I cant wait to make the pressure be the feedback on tuned comb filters, and make some sick physical modeling processing stuff. The keys are so great and sensitive and you can articulate it like crazy, ad the breath and slide controllers are nice too. Overall the build quality is totally amazing.

If they go open source they will probably sell another pico – I’m tempted…

There is an open source version of the EigenD software out there now.

However, I would love to see a Max External that could talk directly to the USB drivers, returning essentially key and controller information so that EigenD could be bypassed completely and Max used instead to process data. There would be an [EigenIn] that’s similar to the [midiin] but provides info about what key was pressed, X, Y, Z movement and controller data.

I have an Alpha and it’s an amazingly expressive instrument. I don’t have the expertise nor time available to figure out how to access the raw data myself but I think there’s tremendous potential for combining the two.

I’ve been using my Pico for a little while and it’s cool to experiment with in Max but a little frustrating. Eigenharp externals would be fantastic if someone wants to give it a try!

I would be willing to pay a few dollars to someone who is familiar with low level system programming on the Mac (i.e, familiar with communicating with USB devices, etc) to do this. Maybe there’s someone at the Expo74 conference who might be interested. It would also make a great final year or grad student project in conjunction with actually building some patchers with it.
