English to French translation

April 24, 2009 | 8:45 pm

Hello everyone,

I’m writing a paper about FFTs in French. Could someone help me translate the following terms?

phase wrapping/unwrapping
samples/sampling (as in number of samples, not the pop music term)
FFTs (je sais qu’on peut dire "transformée de Fourier rapide," mais je n’ai jamais vu le sigle "TFR")

Thank you so much!

phase unwrapping = déroulement de phase
sample / sampling = échantillon / échantillonnage
FFT : c’est bien transformée de Fourier rapide. on garde le sigle anglais FFT

Does échantillon/échantillonnage work for the number of samples/sample rate or is it for the practice of sampling a previously published song in a new song?

Thank you so much!

Yes it does. sample rate = fréquence d’échantillonage
For the part of a "previously published song in a new song", we use the english word ‘sample’, with the french prononciation!
(well, you can use ‘échantillon’ as well, but nobody does)

Great! What about "window," as it relates to FFTs? i.e. Gaussian, Kaiser, Hamming, Hanning, etc.
