Question - is it possible to export a Max patch as an separate, executable file? And if so... how might one go about this? Thanks in advance!

At the very bottom of the Max help page is a topic called "sharing patches with others". It will tell you about building collectives and standalones. A standalone is basically a .app or .exe file which includes everything an end user will require to run your patch including a copy of the Max runtime environment which seems to be what you're looking for.
