Hi there. Does anyone know if there is a player or something to be opened in the vst~ object so exs24 logic files can be used directly in Max? I’m using Max/Logic communication to do this but I was wondering if there would be anyway to get the samples without opening logic every time. Thank you all for the attention!

I believe Native Instruments Kontakt can load EXS24 samples. You may be able to do this with the free Kontakt player as well (without being able to edit instruments) but I’m not sure how limited its features are…

Alternatively, perhaps you are suitably motivated to undertake creating a cool patch to read exs24 instruments/samples and load them into msp via polybuffer~ ;-)

Some time ago i “hacked” parts of the exs file format, because i needed to change the location of the audiofiles of thousands of exs files…

The format is not documented, but fortunately it’s organized in RIFF-chunks.
I didn’t go into detail (pitch ranges, velocity layers, etc.) back then.

So, loading exs files into max would definitely be possible :)

Then we would just need a neat sample player platch…

Translates exs to soundfont, then you could use fluidsynth for max which reads the sf format..
