externals names & java classes

Do Java classes names interfere with externals names ? It seems so, but
i would be happy to have a confirmation. I cannot load a fwd.mxe object,
because i guess there’s a fwd.class in the path…

Erm: nope, at least, not according to any mechanism that I can
imagine. Externals are looked up by Max according to its search path,
whereas class files are looked up by the JVM’s classloader(s)
according to their CLASSPATH settings.

So if you remove the .class, does the .mxe then
load?
