I need to read a fairly fast input signal.

It is in fact a large light bridge that blinks when a circular disc spins through it.

I would like to sample the input signal every 10 ms, and it has to be stable. What I/O device would be best to use?

Maybe some simple serial device, maybe a keyboard encoder?

N.B. we tried a Phidget InterfaceKit, for example, but it will not give a stable reading every time.
