Hi to everyone,

I can buy a new computer “dedicated only” for Jitter!!!

Time ago i tried to do audiovideo in real-time with jitter on a single mac book pro1,1
processor 2 GHz
RAM 2GB
ATI Radeon X1600.

Using IshowU HD for recording my desktop in real-time.

Happened a great disaster :) …… obviously. // frame drops etc etc
All were slow, and I couldn’t do a lot of thing.

____________________________________________________________
… I’m not an expert of OpenGL programming …
I’m not a c++ programmer or stuff like that.
I have a background in electroacustic Music/Audio
And i love the audiovideo!!
____________________________________________________________

I need a computer for analyze the audio input data and display them using the OpenGL objects.

I’m planning to take a MacBook Pro

PROCESSOR: 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache

MEMORY: 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory

GRAPHICS AND VIDEO CARD: Intel HD Graphics 4000

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching

Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors
Thunderbolt digital video output

Native Mini DisplayPort output

•••••••••……………..•••••••••••••••……………..••••••••••••••••••••……………..

Will Be enough or is better enhance the video card up to 2GB?

Or is better to have an external dedicated graphics card ?

I have heard whisper about these:

http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/

http://www.matrox.com/en/

I know that some artists use external graphics card.

What should i do?

Thanks
greetings

The following youtube link might be of interest to fellow Lisp and algorithmic composition geeks. In the video I show how I can control my slippery chicken algorithmic composition software via an interface created in Max. The score is then generated and displayed on-thy-fly, using the musician’s favourite configuration. Communication between Max MSP and Lisp is done via OSC.

The OSC code will be released in the next version of slippery chicken (which could be very soon if anyone’s particularly keen).

i have tried the ‘dmxusbpro’ external and the enttec unit won’t show up, I have also tried ‘imp.dmx.usbpro’ and it DOESshow as connected in the mac window, but i cannot get it to control the light, or when i attach a print to the external i get no data coming through.

Im a little concerned that i haven’t got the drivers installed properly, when i open the ‘pro utility’ app that comes with the device it shows unable to connect! (see pic)

I’m creating a set of learning objects that need to be accessible on both Mac and Windows computers. In a couple of the learning objects, I need to add emphasis to a line of text. Since you can’t change font style within a comment box, I use two different comment boxes and align them. The problem is that the text line spacing is different between Mac and Windows leading to a text offset like the image below. If I make it work for one platform, then it’s off in the other. Any suggestions on how to make this work? I would LOVE to be able to use different fonts/styles/colors/etc. within a single comment box.

Thanks!

Dear Friends

Did you know, how to fill all pixels of the [jit.mgraphics] object with an arbitrary value (something like “setall” message for the [jit.matrix])? I want to draw on transparent background, and I can’t use the “paint” method of the [jit.mgraphics] – “paint” is working with alpha on typical way, but I need a method to “replace” alpha component into new value.

I have no idea, how to do that. Maybe my post is just a”feature request”?

Hi all.
I want to do something extremely simple, just use direct window mode with jit.qt.grab. Patch cannot be more simple : jit.qt.grab object, named jit.window with noaccel set to 1, and a message box “window xxx” to the jit.qt. grab (xxx being the name of the jit.window).
Works as expected with Max 5.1.9
Does not work at all with Max 6.0.8 : I always get the message “could not attach to window xxx” from the jit.qt.grab object.
I really doubt this is a programming error as there is no programming at all…
I am surely missing something here, but what ?
Thanks for your help

Hi list,

This subject MUST have been discussed extensively but I can’t seem to find the discussion.

When one adds a rotatexyz attribute to a jit.gl.gridshape for instance, the rotations applied to the shape are very different when one uses max 6.0.1 (or earlier), as opposed to when one uses one of the latest versions of max.

This example patch will show a vertically oriented cylinder in an older version of max, while it is horizontally oriented in a newer version. Where can i find info about this and how do i convert my older patches using rotatexyz in the old way to also work with newer versions of max?

thanks!

it seems that the order of rotation used in jit.euler2quat is YZX:
first X rot, second Z rot, third Y rot
so X is the bank (tilt) axe.

there is 12 rotation order possibilities.

A convenient order of rotation for openGL, when object is facing the camera is YXZ:
first Z rot, second X rot, third Y rot
It is more logical to use this order, respect to the direction and lookat attributes of jit.anim.node that use the Z axis of the object.
so Z is the bank (tilt) axe.

Could you create an attribute for those 2 objects like: rotation_order (default: yzx, yxz etc…)
or make an object like jit.eulerYXZ2quat and jit.quat2eulerYXZ
or perhaps send me or make the code public for jit.euler2quat & jit.quat2euler, so i can adapt them.

thanks

I created a mxj for this:

	public final void yxz_r(double x, double y, double z) {
// Y : heading, X : attitude, Z : bank
// enter: XYZ _ order process: YXZ
// first Z rot, second X rot, third Y rot, for jitter conveniences
// Assuming the angles are in radians.

 double sx = Math.sin(x/2);
double cx = Math.cos(x/2);

Hi,

I have been trying to use both jit.gl.picker and jit.gl.node, to be able to pick objects rendered in various subcontext, but I failed to do so.

Is it inherently impossible to get this or is there a way to do it that I missed ?

Right now, I think i am doomed to render all my layers in a same unique context to be able to achieve this… and this gets me sooooo sick.

thanks in advance for any hint !

Hi,
I’m sorry if this came up already. I am having an issue with Texture sizes.
When I load a simple obj (a plane with 25 vertices and a texture assigned in the shader) in the patch of jitter tutorial #36, the texture size seems to be limited to below the specification supported by my graphics card (see below).
If I am using a texture size below 4096, i.e. from 4095 (!) the texture shows up fine, but if I am using bigger sizes, I am getting strange facetting in rainbow colors. No warning or error is printed in the output window.
Neither the actual file size nor the format seem to change anything.
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Marcel

a student of mine wants to use the jit.phys objects to place several small balls inside a hollow, transparent sphere. The small balls should roll around inside. At the moment we have a problem whereby they occasionally fall through the sphere. We are trying to understand exactly why this is happening. It doesn’t seem to be related to the dimensions of the outer sphere mesh. Are there any phys settings we can tweak in order to make the large sphere totally non-porous?

thanks,

Hi,

Im looking at the best way to get the current clips playing position as a phasor~, so i can then rate~ and generally manipulate the signal, to create stepped signals etc…

Would I just have to re-trigger a phasor~ that’s synced to the transport or is there a better way of doing this?

I am currently using “playing_position” but as a message, that’s not as flexible as a signal.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

for a one pole filter design I wanted to use the zplane~ object and sent a message ‘order 1′ to it. I read that the object only accepts orders starting from 2. When trying the ‘order 1′ message, it worked for a short time, then max crashed. Could you please update the object, that it accepts also the one pole design?

Hi, I’m just wondering if someone can help me with this particular jitter problem.

The patch I’ve created displays a rigid sphere inside a larger (mesh) sphere.
The problem I’m having is that when the size of the ‘small ball’ is decreased below about 0.8 it falls through the rigid body.

Hello, this might be a pretty easy question, but I have searched around for quite awhile and have not been able to figure out a solution. I am trying to find a way to either produce a delay or shift in phase of a phasor~ object exactly when it ends its cycle. I would like to be able to input a number for the amount of delay at anytime and then it would implement the delay after the phasor~ cycle has ended. I have looked at some externals (wait~) this won;t work because the phasor~ cannot wait for itself. I have imagine this would be possible in gen~ but I don’t have much experience with it… Can anyone recommend a solution, or even point me in the right direction and I’ll try to figure the rest out… Thanks.

I’m trying to generate circular and linear color fields with parametrically-controlled fuzziness and I’m stuck on the best way to get this done.

I’ve made a mockup of what I have in mind here:

I’d be happy with the ability to draw circles and lines (horizontal or vertical) of arbitrary scale, position, color, alpha, and ‘fuzziness’ (edge feathering), at a decent (~40fps) frame rate. Ideally on the GPU.

I could see using jit.gradient in combination with jit.repos to get it done but I’m wondering if there is a GL or similar drawing environment that I’m missing that would be well-suited to the job.

Thanks,

it’s my second post on this topic, i’m writing it because it’s a more general question.

how can i access a buffer~ and copy all the amplitudes in an array of doubles in my external,
i need it to perform an fft using fftw3 library and write the output as a list of float on the first inlet, i want the external to perform the fft on an array of 4096 samples (zero padding if the sample in the buffer are less than 4096 or taking the first 4096 if the buffer is bigger) when receiving a bang in its left and only inlet.

i know how to perform the fft in a stand alone program, so i can write the method, but i cannot understand how to access the buffer, and also i don’t know if i have to write an msp external or just a max external (no inlet or outlets are sending/receiving signals) just bang -> inlet; outlet -> list of amplitudes.

thanks to all the community and of course to cycling74 for this software.

I just tried to install the CNMAT externals but Max isn’t finding the objects. It is in a file path which is in the Max5 file paths, and I have ‘subfolders’ checked. The external objects such as OSC-Route are not found. Any ideas? I’ve been using Max for a while and have never had problems with it finding externals before. I’m on OSX 10.6.8

I’m building an interactive animation in which people will use changes in their heart rate to smoothly cross-fade smoothly through a *series* of time-lapse photos.

Basically I want to create a slideshow of around 20 images that can be ‘scrolled/scribbed’ through using input from a slider – that is controlled by heart rate.

The fading tutorials and examples I’ve looked at so far – seem to only cover x-fading with jit.xfade – which focusses on mixing between only 2 matrices.

Another variation would be to use the node object to mix images according to xy values.

Any tips re tutorials or suggested approaches would be greatly appreciated

All the best

MindWave is an inexpensive bio sensor product made by NeuroSky – has anyone developed a Max object to read the data from this sensor into Max? There is an object at nonpolynomials.com that seems to have been developed for another similar product made by the same company – but I cannot make it work with the MindWave EEG sensor. The suggested API’s for developing for the MindWave seem to be java or Flash – has anyone had any experience with this? I think I saw some people controlling the Euclidean Patter Generator at the Max Science Fair in Brooklyn last year – were they using some other EEG device? Any experience with the MindWave < --> Max/MSP connection would be most appreciated!
