I didn't see anything in the archives about FileVault, so I apologize if this has already been considered somewhere.

The error I'm seeing is that MXJ can't load class files that live next to a patcher file, if they're both in a FileVault directory.

? error: (mxj classloader) default directory /Volumes/username/Desktop/ does not seem to exist or is not directory!

Regular Max binaries (.mxos) load fine from FileVault.
