Hi Everyone,

This is a simple question. I can’t seem to get the folder object to acknowledge mp3′s. I know it needs to be fed a “Types” message, but I’m not sure what the appropriate abbvreviation for mp3′s is. I already tried MPEG and other such variants. What I really want is for the folder object to show all sound files, regardless of format. WAVE and AIFF is no problem, it’s the compressed formats that I can’t figure out. Nothing specific in the docs about this.

Same question regarding filter types for ubumenu. How to specify compressed audio files in the inspector.

A quick look reveals one MP3 file with a type ‘Mp3 ‘ and one with no
type at all (this being usual for OS X’s schizophrenic TYPE/CREA
support.) Under Windows, I believe there’s a configuration file
somewhere which Max uses to associate file extensions with Mac-style
type tokens.

The file in question is init/max-fileformats.txt

That said, ‘MPEG’ should do nicely and I’m not sure why it didn’t
work for you. The files are really valid?

the max-fileformats.txt file is the answer. Thanks everyone. The init file on my computer didn’t have .mp3 mapped to any code, so I just added it. Works perfectly, and now I know how to deal with other extensions in the future, if necessary.
