I've never really used Max for sounds. Right now I'm making a playback patch with recorded sounds (MSP Tutorial 14). I'm using ~groove and buffers. While I'm plugging along the tutorials, does anyone know a way to add filters to the sounds (distortion, delay, chorus, etc)? I want to be able to turn them on an off with my keyboard (which I'm assuming is just a key/select ### with a toggle).

look at filtergraph~ for filtering, and tapin~ / tapout~ for delay. Chorus I'm not so sure, take the original signal and duplicate it several times, with each pitch-shifted a slight amount? For pitch shifting look at gizmo~. There are a lot of other cool effects too, like teeth~ and comb~. Also you can add an LFO/Ring Mod very easily by multiplying your signal with a cycle~.

To "turn them on and off" really means either sending the signal through them or not. Simplest is a gate~ 2 so that you can go clean or effects at each step of the way. The key commands are straightforward: sel, then this flips a toggle on or off.
