finding the track the device is on when the device is inside a rack?

Hi,

I realise that if a device is inside a rack,

[path this_device canonical_parent canonical_parent canonical_parent]

will need to be used in order to get the track that the device is on

But how do I get max to determine whether the device is inside a rack or not?

This works when the device is not inside a rack

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

and this works when inside a rack:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

Is there any way I can combine these together?

I thought about using if statements and also “can_have_chains” but not sure where to start really

would appreciate any pointers you may have

cheers

This patch gives the track number regardless of whether the device is inside a rack or not.
