I am using jit.qt.grab to show a camera input on a hit window. while in Photo Booth and other apps the camera input is good, in max it is quite flaky, there is no real quality in it. I am doing no manipulation whatsoever so the quality issue is quite annoying. Anyone has tips on how to improve the quality? Working on a MBP retina 13 inch, mid 2014 with Mavericks.

I got excellent results by using the Apple Intermediate Codec. You need to tell your grab object what codec to use.

Have you set the resolution (dim) attribute? It probably defaults to 320x240.
