I would love to emulate the apple bevel style. ala volume keys, screen brightness, appswitcher.

it appears that removing the titlebar of a floating window de-floats it.

(step 1) set window_A to flags: notitle float. then (step 2)click window_B, window_A disappears.

meaning that if you 
(step 1) set window_A to flags: notitle float. then (step 2)click window_B,  window_A disappears.

window flags notitle, window exec -> thispatcher

The resulting window is not "floating", it's a "utility" window. It won't disappear when another app is in front, and will float above that app.

Beware save dialogs when you have a topmost window. If the save dialog then opens a "replace?" sub-dialog, you will likely crash. Not sure if this is fixed in Max 5. Workaround is to un-topmost the window(s), deal with your save dialog, re-topmost the window(s).

How does this work with mouse/key-strokes? Does max then retain focus here?

no this issue with the save dialog isn't my problem its that if you type "window flags blah, window exec, topmost 1" into a message box, you dont get the topmost behavior.

instead you need to delay topmost a few seconds after window exec.

Not sure, but you may be able to trigger the topmost from an [active] object that fires when the window is recreated after window exec.

And yes, a topmost non-floating window can have keyboard focus if you click it to make it the active window. In the absence of a title bar, its state can be inferred by the depth of its shadow.

I want to create a "credits" window that pops up with no title bar and no menu bar, stays floating in top of all others and close when you click anywhere inside it.

everything's working fine except for the floating state. I tried to follow the suggestion I found in this thread (delaying by 2000 ms / deferlow) but it still won't work.
