freeware text editors for javascript/coding on os x?

September 24, 2011 | 11:13 am

alright people,

doing a complete install, getting rid of EVERYTHING that seems completely useless, trust me there is A LOT :D
my computer starts up so quickly now :D

anyhow…

while doing my installs etc, am looking at having a text editor to use for things like javascript/js externs building and am not sure which one would be best for it.
have had a look at some but not too sure about usability/speed/update for objects and was wondering which ONE would be the best choice as a freeware option for mac os x

i have used TextMate on someone elses computer and really liked it, but dont want to pay, but also dont want to use crack versions [i think its just wrong], so a freeware/opensource version is a must.
i have looked into aptana studio, aquamacs and seedit. but am unsure which one would be the best for such editing. aptana looks the option, but would like some experience knowledge from users who know.

cheers

TextWrangler is great, free, and has tons of search options, color syntax, regular expressions…

cool, textwrangler looks pretty nice. though a bit annoying that it is a lesser version of bbedit. but dont see why that is a problem. will give it a go

I really like JEdit for Javascript, as I also use it for Processing and Csound b/c it has a customizable syntax highlighting structure that people have written packages for syntax highlighting for Processing and CSound, and I find it a much better editor than the Processing or Csound built in editors.

aye someone said about jedit to me in passing. will have a look and see which is better, though textwrangler has caught my eye somewhat.

cheers people
