Fun with click~

Hello guys, I’m having some fun playing around with the click~ object, putting it through various filters and playing with their settings etc.

I was wondering if someone with more experience than I have could help me with some suggestions for filtering out the initial impulse in this little patch, leaving only the squelchy sound the filter makes each time the object is banged?

Also does anyone know of any sites that have interesting ideas of what can and cant be done with impulses. Ones pertaining to Max/MSP would be of particular interest.

well doctor spanken… wait what?

my 2 cents, if your going to make a sound from a filtered click, its going to sound like a filtered click, theres not much you can do to remove the click thats the foundation of the sound.

secondly, check out karplus strong synthesis, it uses basically the technique your using, a click through a comb, to create plucked string sounds, search for percolate externals, ive even seen some abstraction versions made from just max objects that might show you more of whats going on but they didn’t sound as good.

try to notice when it does "click" and when it does "squelch", you may notice in your patch taht it clicks when the click hits the values that are below 0. on the [tri~] wave.
it squelches when it is above , so once you know that you can fool around with all possible wave shaping solutions by simply clipping , scaling , smoothing or whatever :
here is a simple [phasor~]-[slide~] combo instead of your [tri~]:

Thankyou for the advice gentlemen, if anybody else has any interesting ideas on what can be done with this object then I’d love to hear more. I’m find all kind of nifty little sounds with click~ thanks to this info!
