Thanks Stephen. I’m an idiot. I was using the global function like this for
the first time, so I made the wrong assumption that it had something to do
with the problem. Turned out "v" was passed "null" for when there is no hit.
I only had to change my if statement to:

if (hitob != null) {
g.setMrkHighlight(hitob);
}

post is the first thing you do when debugging, I know, don’t hate me for
it;-)
