globally changing noteout

I have hundreds of Max objects from a former project. Originally I was outputting to a piano. Now I want to use “from Max 1″ as my noteout default instead of the AU DLS synth 1. Can I change the default output globally or must I go back and edit every patch individually? (I think the answer is to edit them individually.) Thanks for your help.

Does the “universal” object help?

I’ll try it. I’m not familiar with it. Haven’t worked with Max in several years, since version 4.6. Thanks for the tip.

I tried send noteout “from Max 1″. Then took away the quotation marks. That didn’t work. Then I removed send and put noteout “from Max 1″ and tried this again without the quotation marks. No luck so far. I’ll play around with this more tomorrow. (I am using the demo version of Max 6.) Once again, thanks for the suggestion.

the message to universal should be:

noteout port “from Max 1″

Like:

– Pasted Max Patch, click to expand. –

All of my old patches were written in Max 4.6. It appears that I have to save them in Max 6.0 for the universal object to work properly. It doesn’t seem like there is an easy short-cut solution to what I am trying to do. Still, given all the work I did on the initial patches, changing the noteout message on all of them is much easier than starting over. Each one works fine when I do this. It would be nice if the user could change the default playback synth in preferences. Anyhow, thanks for your help. I am enjoying making music with Max again.

maybe it is time for you to create a custom noteout abstraction containing a [noteout] and a [receive #1]
