grab hdv

September 15, 2008 | 4:00 pm

According to some previous posts, it’s not possible to capture a hdv or hd camera with grab.

I wonder if that changed (these posts are 1 year old) on Leopard and Max 5?

Thanks

if you have:

10.5
QT 7.4+
Final Cut Pro 6.0.X

Apple installs a AppleHDVCodec.component quicktime plugin which allows HDV capture over the regular jit.qt.grab (since its a regular quicktime component, any QT app that captures should be able to use it – thus – Jitter)

However, it is fairly slow, and requires lots of CPU, iirc. I havent really looked too much into it since seeing the low performance when I first noticed the capture component.

Personally id say go with DVCProHD or something like that, if you can.

yeah i’ve had issues having max 5 (with 10.5 and final cut 6) recognize my canon hv30 (when its set in either 60i or 30p..DV mode works fine) the option for hd seems to be there but it does nothing when i select it

Trying the same thing here with a Sony HDV cam. I have FCP installed and I can select HDV-VCR as the input but when I try to open the grab component, I’ve got the -9405 error message. Anybody had success with this?

I have Blackmagic Intensity Pro board and I’m capturing HD over analog YUV with jit.grab to GPU without any problem. osX 10.5.6, Max 5, don’t know the QT version. I’m also making use of vades yuyv optimization for that. Actually playing QT movie to GPU appears to require more work from CPU, which is obvious since the movie needs to be decompressed, while capture board has raw data available.

Yeah, I know the BlackMagic can work but I’m trying to use a Sony HDV cam. The Sony is HDV, not real HD.

i know this thread is quite old but…: does jitter by now actually support hdv?
i have a simple canon hv20 connected through firewire and although i can capture with it HDV1080 25 psf without problems in quicktime (7 pro, with mpg/hdv component) it’s not shown as an option in my devlist in jit.qt.grab. i only get dv/iidc/usb and some dvcprohd presets which don’t do anything but default to standard isight.
can anyone shed some light onto this?
