Is there a good list of 3d positional tracking methods?

Has anyone experimented with finding positional data from a gyroscopic sensor? usually delta values are unreliable for me but I just took a trip to a nasa museum where they said they determined absolute position gyroscopically

I have a guy who does martial arts with a baton that I'd like to track in 3d but it goes under his arm a lot (out of view of any cameras) so I bet it would be hard to track using wii or cameras

Are there any ready made systems which utilize rfid triangulation?

Gyroscope + accumulate = absolute position?
