Hi all!

I’m building a creature dialogue system for my dissertation, and I would really appreciate it if you could help me fill out a quick survey to test and improve it. It will only take around 3 minutes. Here’s the link:

http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/facebook/1029288/b5f30aac728c

Any comments or questions about the project are also welcome :)

Thanks a lot!!

There’s a few samples that don’t sound like any of the options to me: Creature 4 sounds more curious than anything else. As does creature 7. Creature 9 I’d say sounds ‘distracted.’ (like it’s playing with a toy or something)

Hey guys, thanks! Your feedback is really useful and interesting! About the audios, It seems like the samples don’t work well in all browsers, Chrome is the best one.

Samples all worked in Firefox. The mood choices seem a bit restrictive to me. So it seems most ‘hjgh voices’ sound happy to me for example.

Yeah, that’s one of the characteristics of speech when people are happy…. although the angry mood is also supposed to have a high pitch range.. it’s a bit tricky… The difference is that happy mood should have more pitch variability than the other ones…

me and my wife took the survey together, and both had the same reaction as MuShoo: “curious” was the word that automatically came to mind for many of them(as if they’re playing with something they don’t understand: this emotion doesn’t fit the description of ‘neutral/bored’ but we just checked those options anyways because they seemed closest).

I was wondering, why do you think they sound “curious” or distracted playing with something? Is it because of the tone of voice, or the pauses between “words”, or because of the sound layers underneath, maybe?
