help with installation

January 20, 2006 | 1:45 pm

Hi, my name’s John, Im attempting to create a simple installation by where a sensor running through a miditron and max/msp will trigger a sound file on my computer. I have spent hours upon hours attempting to find out how it is possible with no joy. I have looked through all the tutorials etc. Could you please tell me how to do it? I know that I connect it with a midi cable to my computer and then write a patch using max/msp but have no idea how to do that. Thanks a lot, John.

The main players in this patch are going to be these objects:
•midiin (or a similar notein, ctlin…)
•sfplay~ (or some others)
•unpack (for looking at midi messages)
•select (to identify the message you want)
•dac~ (to send the sound out from the computer)

There are more ways to do what you want than there are folks on this list. Put a couple of hours into the objects I’ve mentioned, and patching in general, then send out another email if you get stuck.

best,

mzed

PS Another essential is the "print" object. Use it to look at the output of a Max object in the Max window. Very helpful for figuring out what’s going on.
