Presume I have a patch that takes in 2 channels via adc~, sends each channel through its own gain~, and then sends it out via dac~.

What value should I have on the gain slider so that the signal level coming in is the same going out?

I'm finding that it appears the signal is attenuated significantly through this process, but maybe I'm expecting something different from the sliders.

In case it matters, all I'm doing is automating the loudness of the signal using OSC signals to change the gain sliders from external software.

The gain sliders operate on a logarithmic scale, however are restrained to values 0 - 157. This system is based on a dB system similar to faders present in commercial software. For 0dB, i.e. no adjustment, the fader should be set to 127. Above that is + 0dB, below that is -0dB.

If you attach a level meter to the signal prior and post to gain slider you will be able to see the signal levels matching.

If you are attaching some form of control (i.e. Max Slider) to the gain sliders for OSC input, you may wish to bear in mind that sliders and dials of that nature are restricted to data values of 0 - 127.
