i often see posts where there are a coded patch file included.

how do i read these patches.? should i copy/paste it into max somehow?

as you might have guessed, im new to max and to this forum.

Please read the sticky called "Common Max Arcana", it's in the Max/MSP part of the forum.

(I think it should be renamed to 'FAQ' or 'Read this before you post' or 'New here?')

Copy everything including and between the ---max patch etc ----- bits and then choose New From Clipboard from the File menu (or use the shortcut). To post a compressed patch, select all that you want to copy, and then choose Copy Compressed from the Edit menu, instead of using apple/control+c.

It's explained in the "Comman Max Arcana" sticky, but you can't be blamed for not guessing to look in there first; it's not really named appropriately :)

ya, 'arcana' is exclusive and elitist(but then, perhaps this community is a bit like a fraternity: mostly white males comparing dick size... 'scuse me, 'max prowess' ;)

I'm assuming that Chris Muirs' original use of the word 'arcana' was intended to be ironic, if not just tongue-in-cheek.

Many posters have suggested that the sticky title should be amended, to attract newcomers with faqs......

But would some of us....... miss the opportunity to bask in smugness and mild irritation?

i am pretty smug, myself. sorry for that last one :(

but it seems that alot of 'experts', has a need to compliment their 'expertize' by looking at the noobs as idiots. they seem to forget, that once, they were noobs too. this is common in every forums i have ever looked at. This results in, people excuse them selves as noobs when they ask questions, just to avoid the harrasments.

but then again, there are always someone giving the noob a chance at learning, and i will give my thanks to everyone of you. you made my life alot easier. and i think this forum has alot of those peoples.

im looking forward to learn the max language. thanks in advance, for all your help
