how to turn audio ON?

March 7, 2007 | 4:50 pm

hello,
I have the midi part of my MAX/MSP 4.6 setup working, now I cannot get any audio sound. Neither with the internal sound card of my laptop, nor with a fancier external one. Drivers seem to be fine. I am beginning to suspect I missed something really simple… : how do I turn Audio ON? No matter what I do, the DSP status window opens to Audio Off, and if I change this to On, sound still does not play.
trying not to give up on Max,
truly yours,
Amandine

Hi,

You probably need to just look over the introduction to the MSP manual
not the Max manual. It tells you how to get sound out. And I might
be stating the obvious but midi is not sound, it is information. You
have to send that information to something that makes a sound.

The usual questions: Is it on? Is it plugged in? Is the soundcard
you want to use selected in the dsp status? Is there a yellow and
black striped patch chord somewhere in your patch going to some sort
of dac~? Is there audio being sent to it?

Try loading one of the MSP tutorial patches and turning on the audio.

cheers,

Carey

Some new elements to my problem:
I actually work on two laptops, pretty similar, one is Dell Latitute D600 (A), the other D610 (B).
Audio seem to be working okay on A, but B seem to be able to play audio once, then when I stop audio and try to start it again, it does not work, as if Max were crashing or something. I have to start Max again, and again, I cannot have audio after I turn it off and back on again.
It is a problem as the patch I will want to design surely will need to have audio on sometimes but not all the time…. and I’d like to be able to work on computer B as well.
thanks for any insight!
Amandine

This is demo mode of MSP.
Perhaps you have not the right authorization for MSP.
You should contact cycling74.
