how to update gui without output

hi, seems trivial.
i have a dail i want to use to monitor a midi pitch state, but also have it
as a control.
so… how do i patch it without causing a feedback loop?

You can use the “set” message. It updates the object without triggering its
output. Most UI objects have something like that.

Most user interface objects take a set message to set the value but
not output it.

Set works fine, but it may not be obvious
where to tap off the data so that you can
work with the number box OR the dial.
