How to use Max with Pro Tools or Logic
I would like to use a synthesizer, within Pro Tools or Logic, that I have built in Max 6. The synthesiser also includes an in built sequencer as a modulation source. Could anyone offer any advice on how to go about doing this? Or offer an insight into related articles or tutorials?
I am no Max expert (but know PT well) and haven't tried it, but I believe you can make a VST plug-in with some part of Jamoma, and that could be wrapped with a VST > RTAS wrapper. Correct me if I'm wrong on that...
I have not needed to do this for a while, but if all you need to do is control the synthesizer with MIDI, you just have to set up a track in your sequencer program to control an external MIDI instrument and have it send to the virtual MIDI port which your Max MIDI-in is set to recieve.
If you need the synthesiser to be sending its audio output to the sequencer program, search the forum for Max for Live, soundflower and VST. I it has been years since I looked into it, so there are others here who can better help you out.

For Max 4.6, but the principals are the same.
Be warned, ReWire can be very flakey - one day it's working, the next it's not - but if you search the forum, there are workarounds.
Fwiw, I was reWiring max 5 into Pro Tools 9 only a couple of days agoo, so it does work!

try jack: http://jackosx.com - not perfect, but more flexible than rewire and more reliable than soundflower.
