How do I make an if sentence that sounds as follows:

If $i1 is the same as $i2 +/- 10 then 1 else 0

In other words, I would like to see if the first value is within a certain range of the second value.

Not sure that if understands abs but this is the idea.

as far as I know the if statement can't nest expressions so you would need two if statements and then test for truth in both:

I had no idea you could use arithmetic expressions in if statements-- I think I tried it once (a longtime ago) and it didn't work. Is that a new feature, or did I just not know?

Are the mathematical functions in if the same as in [expr ], which means that the C functions are available? That would make an awful lot of sense... :)

i have never found anything what would not work, except using expressions for the "then".

Just to elucidate Roman's post a little further:

You could always use expressions in the if clause of the [if] object.

The if object will not evaluate expressions in the then or else clauses. You can only have primitives after 'then' or 'else'. Ie, literal constants (such as bang, 42, 3.14159), placeholders ($i1, etc.), and lists (possibly combining literals and placeholders).

So, for instance, if you wanted to express absolute difference using an if object, [if $i1

If any of this isn't clear, try both variants and connect to a print object.

cycling is not able to guarantee that all of the math expressions will work in the

theoretically there could be OS or hardware which stops supporting some of the

things, so the documentation is safer to just point us to C++ tutorials ... in a

similar fashion the helpfiles do for sprintf.

Thanks for the elucidations-- its full capabilities really should be documented with appropriate caveats rather than the current (non-)situation.
