This very useful and commonly used object is full of bugs! Firstly there are tons of posts complaining about how people lost data because they turned off the DAC before stopping recording or they recorded too long. Can this not be remedied? Also the object cannot overwrite file names already present in that directory, nor can it allow the playing of a file from the hard disk before its recording is complete. Many file sharing programs allow you to listen to files while they are downloading, how is this different? One recent problem I had was changing the file name into which I was recording accidentally before stopping recording. This totally screwed up Max/MSP until I restarted the program, for I could not again record using the object, even after opening a new file to record into and properly making sure that I stopped recording before opening a new file.

Please look into fixing these objects, they are very important, usually being used to document unique data and events such as performances! Control systems and computation can be debugged, but a lost recording is lost forever.

You obviously know the "rules" of sfrecord~ as it exists now, since you use the word "accidentally". Use a program like Soundflower to record outside of Max entirely.
