In Regards to Matrixctrl

August 15, 2008 | 12:00 am

greetings maxers. i’m looking into matrixctrl right now and it’s ability to have multiple cell states and had a few ideas.

1. Why not, in addition to being able to load one’s own picture, have colors that vary every X amount of states, the way sliders can vary in color for multislider? so if you have say 4 states, then you can choose 4 different colors that vary depending on the state.

2. It would be very nice to have as infinite a number of cell values as is possible on a finite machine. This would be extraordinarily simple – instead of having cells you click on to change states, imagine having flonum or int boxes that you can type values into. Like a big grid, Microsoft Excel style (perhaps this is possible with an object that I am currently unaware of, since it seems like a very handy tool for lists, which, to me, seems like such an important part of Max).

3. (unrelated to matrixctrl) Perhaps C74 should have a suggestions forum or something, b/c i feel like the max community could provide little ideas such as these that could help direct/inspire C74 for future max developments.

You can already do this via the picture mechanism. Just provide enough
columns of pictures for the number of states you want to have.

It would be nice if there was some place to share pictures for
matrixctl and pictslider.
