Hi everyone, bit of ‘random’ question here. I’m looking for a way to generate a simple bang message from simply touching the surface of a plastic or metal object….. do you know if this is possible? I realise this sounds a little stupid but perhaps loading a surface/object with a current that when completed with one’s touch can ground it and create a bang… basically I would like to create a way to activate a bang in a patch without using a button or directly touching a touch screen device etc – possibly by simply putting your hands on an object (inert object).

Thanks and good luck…I’m not too hopeful of replies on this one

J

A really low-tech way to do this might be to detect the hum produced at an audio input when someone touches it. This occurs because the human body acts as an antenna, picking up 60Hz signals generated by AC line voltage. It would probably require some tweaking, and you’d have to use a different audio channel for every object, but it’s certainly low cost.

Best regards,

That’s a cool idea! An analogous, to my aims, question now, is there any way of triggering bangs if a number box reaches above a certain value? And trigger again when it goes below – like the opening and closing of a switch?

Take a look at [adc~] and [ezadc~] for input, then [thresh~] for level detection.
