I have an Alesis MultiMix 8 USB digital mixer and am using a Mac. I’m going nuts trying to figure out how to get input into Max/MSP from the mixer, process it, and then send it back out to the mixer for playback. The problem is that whatever is playing into the mixer automatically plays back out to the mixer (as if its looping through via the computer). Instead I want to suck in signal from the mixer into MaxMSP, do something with it, and then send it back out to the mixer.

When I select Core Audio USB Audio Codec as my driver then signals created in MaxMSP go out through the mixer (e.g. an oscillator), even though I can’t manually select an output device. But I still have this loop through behavior.

If I select Core Audio Built-In Output, then I can select the mixer as input, but it’s not available as an output (not in the list). This is even though I’ve selected it in the Sound control panel as well as the Audio MIDI setup app.

Can someone give me the most basic instruction on how to do this? For example, get audio from the mixer into MaxMSP, adjust its volume with a gain~ and then output it with the volume change to the mixer?

Thanks!!
