There way better installer creator applications rather than having the apple one, although it is free. But it does only create packages and not installers.
I suggest going for VISE
These cats are used by pretty much everyone who makes programs, Native Instruments and many many more. I cant remember who else.
Maybe even Cycling 74 use VISE, but i dont know, but maybe
But i suggest VISE as a really good one
They also have a few different programs for the installer, each does more than the other, with also the prices changing.
Hope this helped

Also, I was just thinking, you will need things like, icon creators and the such.
So if you make a installer, it will have your logo or products sign on the installer.
VISE does let you put your own installer icon on your program.
You dont need to get anything really bad ass, just something to do the job.
have a look on google and search or pic2icon & iconverter.
These are both free and should do the trick in creating quick icons.
If you have photoshop that is good as well, because then you can mess with your icon to make it perfect.
These icon creators are for Mac only. But if your on PC, you can easier find free programs for windows

thanks a lot for the info.
i have tryed the vise installer and everything looks very nice, but for someone who just want to realese the software for free its to expensive.
i will take a look at the apple Package Maker.

A couple years ago I started using iceberg:
I believe it’s a wrapper of sorts for Apple’s packagemaker. Took only a few minutes to make an installer. I recall liking it at the time since getting from point A to B was a bit more intuitive than apples app. That might not be the case anymore, however.

you may have already found an installer package thing.
But just saw one now for a great price, very cheap
Have a check
Vlad Spears of Daevl Plugs uses it
