I want to record audio loop to [buffer~] and have it immediately doubled once the recording is finished, so the target buffer would contain two identical loops one after another. I’ve searched forum for “buffer copy” cases, but then thought something unsophisticated – simultaneous recording using two [record~] objects associated with the same buffer.

It works fine for me, but I’m worried about possible stability/latency/distortion/consumption issues. Is it suitable solution, or there are some better and less CPU/RAM intensive?

Maybe I’m missing something or not getting what you’re trying to do, but given its possible to access the contents of one buffer~ arbitrarily (and simultaneously) there is no real gain in having the same recording repeated in a buffer~.

Imagine you’ve got a recorded loop of your dramatic voice saying single “Ta-da… ” for 2 seconds. My goal is to play it or pass it ONCE (for 2 seconds) with simultaneous recording to the buffer and maybe some instant sample mangling afterwards, so that the target buffer would contain 4 seconds of “Ta-da… Ta-da…” in result. The timing is critical, everything should be dealt precisely in 2 seconds.

The patch I’ve posted above does the trick using two recorders, question is, are there best alternatives?

There’s no problem with what you’ve done. I think what spectro was saying is, why not just record it once and access it twice (e.g. with two groove~ objects), rather than vice versa? But regardless of whether there’s a good reason for doing what you’re doing, there’s nothing wrong with your method of doing it.

Thanks, Christopher! Now I’m confident enough to continue my work easier way. Double-buffering is essential. The truth is, I’ll also need a couple of grooves too later on, and there will be two independent buffers with four recorders in total… It’s going to be a diabolous beast memory-hungry machine, but it’s worth the efforts.
