I was messing around with sample playback and came up with the idea of controlling loop start and stop points in a method similar to the SP-303 sampler. With this sampler the full loop will play by default. If you hit the "mark" button, the start point will be set to the current point in the loop playback. Pressing the mark button a second time will set the end point of the loop to the current point in the playback. I find this method of marking start and stop points very versatile and as such I want to try to set up such a system in max/msp using wave~/zigzag~ as my sampler. I came up with something that almost works but things seem like they get out of alignment easily, and it is easy to cause playback to halt by setting the stop point before the start point. Does anyone know of a way to fix this patch?

Try this for starters - stops stop being less than start.

Also, it doesn't seem that precise - it would be nice to see the waveform and loop it that way. There is an object for that - waveform~ - edit the contents of a buffer.

Sorry I didnt make the "Mark" button very clear. It is the bang connected to the inlet of the counter object. I am familiar with waveform~ but don't want to use it. I don't want to be force to stare into a computer screen during performance.

My main problem is accurately setting the stop point for the loop, but I will have to worry about that tomarrow.

Woops, sorry for sending so many messages but I solved my problem all of a sudden. Thanks.

i'm at work right now, so i can't check out your patch, but im wondering if you might be able to help me with something similar to what you have done here.

Using groove (and waveform~) i have set up a little looping device. Everything works just fine. Using the mouse-tools i am able to make a loop selection, snap it to the bpm grid, and change its location in the groove's buffer.

I am trying to figure out how i can slide the selection, keeping the same selection size, without using the mouse-tools. I want to rig it up to a slider, or number box, and eventually a midi controller. I've tried so many different things without success. I have a feeling that my project has grown to be such a behemoth in other areas, that something else is getting in the way and i just cant see it anymore. When i get home, i wll try to pull out the pieces i need help with and post them here.

Seth, I tried to solve your prolem last nite but I was having some troubles. I run into problems when trying to get the waveform~ object to refresh the new values without creating infinite loops that crash max. I'll try to figure this out tonight, but if anyone else has any ideas please contribute. I _know_ there is a simple way to do what Seth wants.

What do you mean by getting the loops more accurate? if you're running this patch with some sort of global metronome, you could use a combination of sah~ and rate~ to sync your keystrokes.

solomonb, thanks for the help. I've gotten that same inifinite loop bit that crashes max with a few of the solutions i tried. Im still plugging away though, so i will post the solution if i find it....
