jit.desktop AND fullscreen problem

hi,

for an videoinstallation it is necesarry to capture a part of the desktop with jit.desktop to use it for the motion-artwork… the problem is i want to run the final-output (openGL objects with textures from desktop) with jit.window in fullscreenmode on the SAME screen on which jit.desktop is grabbing some pics…

so is it possible to run jit.desktop grabbing stuff AND jit.window in fullscreenmode on the SAME screen?
if not some workarounds would be great!

many thx for tips
peter

if i understand the logic of your patch, you can use [to_texture] to capture
your rendering context to texture.
run a search on “to_texture” or am i missing something, a patch with the
problem will be of help

ok… i’ll try to explain a simple way…

i capture a region of my desktop with jit.desktop and want to show the output with jit.window FULLSCREEN on the SAME screen as jit.desktop captures some stuff… so the problem is: if the screen is fullscreen jit.desktop can’t capture the desktop cause of the fullscreen window…
question: is it possible anyway? workarounds?

i am still unclear as to what you are trying to grab, diffrent things can be
delt in diffrent ways.
a simple workaround is to connect a second screen if your card supports
that. most new video cards do.

i’m just grabbin file- and foldericons from my desktop. i think jitter handles this like a normal quicktimefile…

perhaps you are confused because jit.desktop doesnt capture ONLY the
desktop and its icons, but literally a bitmap of everything that is
on screen, from other application windows the the Max windows as well..

if you have one screen

and one screen is filled with one large fullscreen max window

the only thing jit.desktop will capture is that one, large,
fullscreen window.

you can even substitute the second screen with a dummy.
http://tvtool.info/go.htm?http://tvtool.info/english/dummy_e.htm
and still be able to grab the desktop.
disclaimer: never tried it myself

Hey, I was wondering if there was a mac version of this for creating a dummy screen(s) from which to grab full desktop images whilst being able to work on the ‘real’ one in max…
Thanks
