jit.gl.volume within a platonic solid

May 9, 2006 | 7:31 am

hi all,

i’d like to generate and display platonic solids, but with desity values (with jit.gl.volume).

my idea is to create a 32*32*32 density matrix with jit.bfg and multiply it with a 32*32*32 "polyhedric mask". so here are my questions:

a) does anyone think of a better idea?
b) if not, any idea on how to generate these masks (plane sections of polyhedra…) it is easy for simple solids, but might be tricky with dodecahedron and isocahedron…

thanks in advance

just in case…

if anybady has an idea, it would be the right time, since, i’ve decided to give up with this…

You could render a set of nested platonic solids and texture them with
a 3D texture generated by jit.bfg. You may want to write a shader to
implement the density and other parameters as well as probably some
kind of parameterized indexing into the 3D texture.

thanks for this track, wes!

i hadn’t thought about this.i will surely work that way. however, i haven’t worked with 3D textures yet. Would you please give me a link or something to get started?

thanks again
