I haven’t used jit.lcd for that, but I did use jit.gl.sketch
You could bring your video into gl-land by putting it on a
jit.gl.videoplane, and then use gl.sketch for the gui. Check ou the
examples in your max folder > examples > jitter-examples > javascript
> ui

http://www.lividinstruments.com/software_cell.php
has a clip grid that’s all based on javascript controlled jit.gl.sketch.(so does the other software Union). So, yes it’s possible. The basic task of making a grid of thumbnails isn’t too bad, but getting all the rest of the goodies going (frames, mouseovers, labels, reorganization, etc.) starts taking up a lot time.

the File browser is a javascript controlled lcd. (not jit.lcd).

I’d recommend against using jsui for knobs and faders – you will find your cpu getting unreasonably hammered by it, leaving less room for video processing, which is the point.

I do use jsui for buttons, though, as they are incredibly handy.

Pict-based knobs and faders would be MUCH better if they output and accepted floats as well as integers, but maybe in max 5.
