I am trying to capture a 16x9 video stream from a 4x3 input (video cam through 1394imaging box)

that is I'd like to cut the extra bit off the 4x3 image and end up with a 16x9 to send along into my patch.

but I am a bit confused about where to do this -

pack dim 640x360 vs the standard 640x480?

I'd rather just capture the 640x360 in order to avoid processing the extra bit down the line - right? but how?

yes, use srcrect with the object dim set to srcrect dimension.
