bah, uldl was a joke anyway :P

use java for downloads. Cycling provides some nice examples in the
java folder, especially the threaded image downloader.

You could take a look at the Java jitwebimage-example.pat. It doesn’t
put the file on disk, but it shouldn’t be too hard to modify to do
this sort of thing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

There’s also the potential for using the command line wget or curl
programs with the shell object, or with Java shell execution. curl is
included with OS X, but wget needs to be downloaded and installed.
Search online for more info.

thank you Joshua and Vade,
I went for the shell solution like this “curl -C – -O http://…” and
it works fine on my mac.
I still would like to go java to have a cross-platform solution…

This is not suprising. I think I’ve mentioned for some time that
jit.uldl needs a rewrite for its old, old, old long deprecated (and
now apparently stripped from the OS) code. I’ll see what can be done,
but please don’t expect anything before the release of Max 5.

jit.uldl will not be abandoned. It was written for OS9 technology,
updated for Windows, and didn’t get specially rewritten for OSX —
which was OK until 10.5 was released. That rewrite will come at some
point, but I can’t say exactly when. If you rely on the functionality
and need it immediately under Leopard, you’ll want to look at mxj
solutions.
