I would have assumed this would be on the boards but search revealed little. Also assuming that this will yield a deafening onslaught of api hatred from some poor cycling programmer. I empathize.

[jit.window @visible 0 @pos 400 400 @size 200 200]
flickers like hell when I load it.

[jit.window @visible 0 @pos -400 -400 @size 200 200]
Still flickers like hell when I load it.

I’m creating it in java so I cant even create it with the attributes intact I have to create it, then set the attributes. My windows are going ape at start up.

any ideas?

Hi AudioMatt,

What do you mean it flickers? You’ve set it to @visible 0 so it shouldn’t be visible at all. If you post a sample patch someone may be able to help.

It just flashes as soon as it’s instantiated. No one else has this problem?

No, you’re right. It shows up as visible for an instant. I’m on 5.1.0, MacOSX 10.5.8. I’ve either never noticed before, or noticed and not cared. Will have to defer to the Cycling folks on this – no idea how to prevent it.

Hello maxers,

i report that long time ago. To fix it, i replaced my [jit.window] by a [jit.pwindow] behind a white [panel] in a subpatch. So no black flash on instantiation.

Yeah, I thought of this. Doesn’t bode well for resizing my UI object. I’ll see what I can do. I tried a home made grow box and that just was NOT happening.

this behavior *may* be changed in a future version of max.
for the time being, our suggestion is to create the window with offscreen coordinates using the @rect attribute in addition to the @visible flag.

another possibility is creating the window only when you’ll need it with scripting.

yeah, i see that. looks like scripting is your only option.
